Re: Question re: oval pistons

:there was something about a motorcylce with oval pistons, and the engine
:was completely made of ceramic, it was on beyond 2000 a while back.
:bye

yes. it was called the honda nsr. it is a special edition bike that was made only for japan. it was a v-four with oval pistons. the idea was to (i think)
was to get better breathing by having bigger valves for the same displacement.
i believe that honda is still using the design for their two stroke racers with
moderate success, but the nsr design unfortunately won’t be mass produced because of the manufacturing cost of building oval pistons.

btw. the engine wasn’t ceramic, but had ceramic metalic liners.
this is all from memory, so don’t get mad if i am incorect. the article about
it was in cycle world a few years back.

1.6:1 Rockers or not?

Hi all, my name is Lonnie, I’m new to your group and hope to learn
alot more about my Camaro and LT1 engines. I just bought a 97 30th Edition Z28
w/ LT1 6 speed.   I have read that the typical upgrades are K&N Air Tube,Borla
or FM exhaust,160 deg thermistat,chip/code upgrade, and 1.6:1 roller rockers.

Here are some concerns that I have with a 1.6:1 roller rocker upgrade:

Are my valve covers tall enough?
Are my rocker studs 3/8" or 7/16"?
Are my rocker studs pressed in or screwed in?
Do I have adequate valve/piston clearance?
Is this a wise upgrade in your opinion?

Is there a perfered chip/code upgrade for the 97 LT1?
Would you use the same chip/code if you were using 1.6:1′s instead of the
stock 1.5:1′s?

 Thanks in advance,

Lonnie

Engines in BRM F1 Cars

Is there one here who will confess to being old enough, or who is expert
enough, to have any knowledge about the BRM engines used in F1 a couple
of decades ago?

As I remember it, these engines were capable of RPM’s in the range of
17,000-18,000 – higher than just about any other engine of its time.

My question is what sort of engineering technology those engines used
to be able to endure at those RPM levels?

If anyone knows anything about those engines, could you post a few words
about them?

The Physics of Racing – similar resouces?

I’m wondering if anyone out there could point me in the direction of some
resources dedicated to understanding the physics / dynamics of cars.  In
particular I am looking for references to handling, suspensions, weight
transfer, and the like.  I’ve read the Physics of Racing series and want to
know more.

Suggestions?  WWW, hardback, whatever – anything would be appreciated.

B+M blowers – any good?

I’ve seen a B+M 140 blower for sale and I fancy fitting it to my 215 cuin
 Rover.
Is there anything I need to check for before I buy, ie any common defects that
I need to check for? Has anybody fitted a 140 to a similar size engine?
