Technical aspects & technology of auto racing

Hey Allen Madding…

I tried to e-mail you at "t.a.madd…@no.junk.mail" and the messages
just keep bouncing. So, I’m posting a new thread here hoping you will
see it. Please respond by e-mail.

RE: Need Chevy Mini Factory Parts Sources & Engine Info

Hi Allen,
Thanks for the response. I never would have seen it if h07 hadn’t sent
me e-mail (my ISP is having trouble with news and not getting good
feed). It looks like ho7 has some good sources. I’m going to check
them out. Thanks for your tips too – I’ll follow up on them. Where
are you located at and how long have you been working on your car?
I am at the point of frustration right now. Every time I get one thing
done on the car I find ten other things I need to do. I don’t want to
build junk (I guess you could consider me somewhat of a perfectionist).
Do you read "Circle Track Racing" and "Stock Car Racing?" I have
seen a couple of articles in CTR about Mini Stocks. One article covered
a cage installation in a Plymouth Arrow that I am using as a pattern
for my cage. Please keep in touch…

Ford 3.0, 4.0 and 3.8L engines

I was wondering if there is any differences between the 3.0, 4.0
and the 3.8 Ford V6′s other than displacement. Are they the same block, or
different castings. I’ve been thinking about replacing the tired 3.0 with
a 3.8 or a 4L in my Aerostar.

Technically the only limiting factor to how fast an engine can rev is
the physical capabilities of its components. If the crank, valve springs,
rocker arms, etc. could handle it, you could do 30,000 rpm and still be
fine.
The redline on your engine is most likely determined by a combination of
materials capabilities of the valvetrain, including the cam, and the
bottom end parts including crank and connecting rods. New high rate
springs will probably allow you get away with a moderate increase over
redline, but if you want 7000+ you will need other hi-po parts. The safest
way to go is usually to follow the cam makers recommendations for parts if
you are using an aftermarket cam.

Subaru Impreza Performance Parts in USA?

Does anyone know of a place here in the
States that does perfomance parts for the
2.2 litre Subaru Impreza? I know of some
in the UK and in Austrailia/New Zealand,
but that’s a bit far for parts that might
not even fit properly. Also, does anyone
know if the US versions specs are the same
as the UK/Europe and Aus/NZ spec autos?
Any help would be nice.
cheers-

VDO gauges

I have a replica car that has VDO gauges. My 120mph speedometer is not
calibrated (it registers 100 when I am going 70). I would like to
either install a 160mph VDO or change the calibration wheels.
Anyone have the phone number or technical expertise to help?
Thanks in advance.
