My 90 Corolla LE has a misterious noise which sounds as it is
originated behind the left corner of the dash.
It is a single knock ABOVE -20 DEGREE (like a stone hitting bellow the
windshield) on take off and breaking but it will not do it twice for
the same direction, meaning if it did knock on take off in 1 gear once
it wont do it again unless I put it in reverse.Doeas not have to take
off with the car just apply the load.
Also the noise can not be recreated by swinging, pushing the car back
and forth while parked in 1 gear(manual transm.) or pushing/lifting
each corner of the vehicle up and down.
In adition this noise comes alive on rough roads accelerating or
decelerating or just rolling over the rough road in neutral.
The all front end had been checked many times by different
mechanics.No trouble found so far.
Things we done so far:
New left front strut mount, checked strut ok
low.ball joint
CV joints ok(replaced boots both axles)
Retorqued all the bolts of the front suspension and eng/transm.mounts
Changed the transfercase oil to 90W(thicker oil
Checked retighted the hood mounting bolts.
I have yet to do is to check the steering mounting bolts/bushings and
to check for a crack in the body structure….
Any clue???
Thanks
Steve.
